“Richard of the Steiff family – amazing piece of history!”
RICHARD STEIFF was born in Giengen, Germany, in 1877 and was the nephew of the founder of Steiff – who was his Aunt Margarete Steiff.

He attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Stuttgart and would regularly visit the nearby Zoo and spend much of his time drawing the residents of the bear enclosure. These drawings formed the basis of the very first teddy bear and encouraged the many stuffed animals which followed and were made by Steiff.

He was a designer and inventor and is the inventor of the Teddy Bear when he designed the World’s first Bear in 1902.
The bear is made from superb dark grey mohair which comes from the famous Schulte factory that originally created the fabric for the world’s very first Teddy Bear in 1902.

A Collectors piece in tribute to RICHARD STEIFF.

He is fully jointed 30cm Mohair and has shiny black eyes, expressive face with hand embroidered black nose and mouth.

RICHARD STEIFF loved tailored suits with stand-up collars and stylishly accentuated button plackets, which he wore with a white shirt.
So Steiff have designed this superb bear to remember RICHARD STEIFF as he would have looked around the year 1905 – the year in which Richard came up with the idea of disc-jointed arms and legs.

Limited edition of just 1,902 pieces.
